Indulge in a Two day Creative Machine Embroidery Course to gain confidence and expand your skills in free motion machine embroidery. Iron out any Gremlins and leave with confidence and new found skills. If you are a quilter and fancy being more creative in building up a landscape picture, or and an embroiderer, who needs more creative direction, then this is the course for you! I will initially run through the FME techniques at the beginning of the course  then guide you on a more creative journey, to leave with a nearly finished embroidered picture. " Landscapes" will be the subject matter, which can include Seaside.

COURSE INFORMATION
Bring your sewing machine along to get to grips with the joy of Free Motion Machine Embroidery and leave with new found confidence to continue on your creative embroidery journey.

I've been running my courses for many years now and work with a small group of students so that I can concentrate on teaching each individual at their own level. You will need basic knowledge of your sewing machine, which I encourage to bring with you, so that you can familiarise yourself with it when working free motion. It will need to be adapted by dropping the feed dogs and using a spring loaded Quilting/Darning foot, but no previous free motion experience is needed.

I provide basic fabrics for the initial sampling stages. You will need to bring resource images and co-ordinating fabrics to create the embroidered picture. If you are not so confident then it's possible to work with one of my sewing kits.

Part 1

I start the course with a series of demonstration practice hoops, running through the basic techniques of FM embroidery. You will then have a go at these on your machine, learning how to ’draw in sewing’ so that we can iron out any "machine Gremlins". You will need to make sure that your machine can adapt to free motion by dropping the feed dogs and attaching a darning/quilting foot. You will need to bring your  basic sewing kit. I will provide the fabric that you will be using during the initial sampling stage. I will run through tutorials on machine tension, working with various threads, working with mixed fabrics, appliqué techniques, and preparation of fabrics for your final piece.

Part 2

This is where the fun begins! Armed with the knowledge of the previous sampling hoops, you'll be let loose on creating an embroidered picture. The aim is to leave with a finished piece of embroidery that reflects your own style and colour palette. You will need to bring with you any photographs, post cards, sketches or greetings cards with inspiring imagery. I would also encourage you to bring along your personal collections of fabrics. I can give you guidance and creative direction on the composition. If you don't feel as confident at this stage to create your own design, then there is an option to work from my sewing kits.

Testimonials

“Abigail is a very enthusiastic and very friendly teacher. She herself is very accomplished in the skill of machine embroidery and wants all her students to achieve and learn skills that they can be put into practice when back at home. She makes sure that everyone of her students gets individual attention and nothing is too much trouble to demonstrate or help with any of the techniques she herself uses to get a high standard of finish for her students. Anyone out there wanting to be creative should sign up now for one of her courses. Not only will you have a brill day but I guarantee you will return home rearing to put your new skills into practice!” Carol.

“I just wanted to say a BIG thank you for a most enjoyable day at your beginners freehand machine embroidery course. I thought you had the patience of a saint, with all the queries and questions I and the others ladies had all day long ! Nothing seemed to be to much trouble for you, whether it was a machine problem or a question about what to do next. I found you to be very warm, friendly and sincere in your desire to share with us all, the skills you have developed over many years and a joy to meet the artist behind the work.” Anne.
