This exciting NEW Machine Embroidery Course will take part on ZOOM over x 6 monthly lessons. This has been designed by Abigail to run along side the publication of her new book "Waveney Valley Wildlife", with each embroidery project giving you an insight to the process and stages of building up an embroidered textile picture.

Designed for stitchers with experience of FME, or perhaps those of you who have completed her Creative Machine Embroidery Workshops, the projects will be specific. Abigail will be running through layering up fabrics, relevant stitches and mark making for each project, fabric and thread colours, layering & texture.  There will be a couple of demos in the morning with some stitch ideas, before working on each theme. With a monthly gap between projects, this will enable you to spend time on each project and discuss ideas with the group at every Zoom meeting. It's also an opportunity to be supported by our fellow sewing community!

WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE

Once you have booked online you will receive an email with the ZOOM link, and through the post you will receive a Course package containing the  Instruction sheet, an Inspiration sheet of Abigail's personal photographs and sketches, and an interpretation sheet of ideas for your textile workshop

FACE TO FACE

Each monthly part is available to buy as a single one day course, if you want to dip in and out. From March- July there will be an option to do each part of the course "Face to Face" on the previous Saturday for an extra £50 per day. Please call Abigail to discuss this on 07976 946442.

Please note that this course is NOT designed for sewers without experience of FME, as Abigail will not be explaining the technique of FME. There are several dates below on her "Creative Machine Embroidery", which is a brilliant way to introduce you to the technique of FME and help you gain confidence to take your journey forward......

Indulge in a Two day Creative Machine Embroidery Course to gain confidence and expand your skills in free motion machine embroidery. Iron out any Gremlins and leave with confidence and new found skills. If you are a quilter and fancy being more creative in building up a landscape picture, or and an embroiderer, who needs more creative direction, then this is the course for you! I will initially run through the FM techniques at the beginning of the course  then guide you on a more creative journey, to leave with a nearly finished embroidered picture. " Landscapes" will be the subject matter, which can include Seaside.

COURSE INFORMATION
Bring your sewing machine along to get to grips with the joy of Free Motion Machine Embroidery and leave with new found confidence to continue on your creative embroidery journey.

I've been running my courses for many years now and work with a small group of students so that I can concentrate on teaching each individual at their own level. You will need basic knowledge of your sewing machine, which I encourage to bring with you, so that you can familiarise yourself with it when working free motion. It will need to be adapted by dropping the feed dogs and using a spring loaded Quilting/Darning foot, but no previous free motion experience is needed.

I provide basic fabrics for the initial sampling stages. You will need to bring resource images and co-ordinating fabrics to create the embroidered picture. If you are not so confident then it's possible to work with one of my sewing kits. I provide the backing fabric for the base of the picture, normally A3.

Part 1

I start the course with a series of demonstration practice hoops, running through the basic techniques of FM embroidery. You will then have a go at these on your machine, learning how to ’draw in sewing’ so that we can iron out any "machine Gremlins". You will need to make sure that your machine can adapt to free motion by dropping the feed dogs and attaching a darning/quilting foot. You will need to bring a sewing kit with you too; basic polycotton threads, pins, scissors, fabric glue or Pritt stick. I will provide the fabric that you will be using during the initial sampling stage. I will run through exercises on machine tension, working with various threads, working with mixed fabrics, appliqué techniques, and preparation of fabrics for your final piece.

Part 2

This is where the fun begins! Armed with the knowledge of the previous sampling hoops, you'll be let loose on creating an embroidered picture. The aim is to leave with a finished piece of embroidery that reflects your own style and colour palette. You will need to bring with you any photographs, post cards, sketches or greetings cards with inspiring imagery. I would also encourage you to bring along your personal collections of fabrics. I can give you guidance and creative direction on the composition. If you don't feel as confident at this stage to create your own design, then there is an option to work from my sewing kits.

Testimonials

“Abigail is a very enthusiastic and very friendly teacher. She herself is very accomplished in the skill of machine embroidery and wants all her students to achieve and learn skills that they can be put into practice when back at home. She makes sure that everyone of her students gets individual attention and nothing is too much trouble to demonstrate or help with any of the techniques she herself uses to get a high standard of finish for her students. Anyone out there wanting to be creative should sign up now for one of her courses. Not only will you have a brill day but I guarantee you will return home rearing to put your new skills into practice!” Carol.

“I just wanted to say a BIG thank you for a most enjoyable day at your beginners freehand machine embroidery course. I thought you had the patience of a saint, with all the queries and questions I and the others ladies had all day long ! Nothing seemed to be to much trouble for you, whether it was a machine problem or a question about what to do next. I found you to be very warm, friendly and sincere in your desire to share with us all, the skills you have developed over many years and a joy to meet the artist behind the work.” Anne.
